What is Functional Medicine?

The functional medicine model of care offers a patient-centered approach to chronic disease management. It seeks to answer the question, “Why are you ill?” so you can receive personalized, effective care for your needs.

Functional medicine providers spend time listening to you and gathering your medical history. We use this information to identify the root cause(s) of the illness, including triggers such as poor nutrition, stress, toxins, allergens, genetics and your microbiome (the bacteria living in and on your body).

Once we identify the triggers, we can customize a healthy living plan for you. Your plan will address many aspects of your life, from physical needs, including nutrition, exercise and sleep, to mental and emotional stressors related to social, work and community life.

What conditions can you treat with Functional Medicine?

Anyone facing an acute or chronic condition can benefit from functional medicine. Some of the most common conditions we treat include:

Listed Below are some of the Highlighted Tests we run and why we think you should get tested for them!

Lab Experiment

Hormones

A female or male hormone profile test examines many of the most important hormones to give your doctor a clear idea of their current levels. It is a simple blood test to check for any imbalance. When a hormone level is lower or higher than it should be, it can have a severe impact on your health.

Our lab uses bioidentical hormone replacement therapy (BHRT) pellets, which contain testosterone or estrogen that the body sees as identical to what it produces naturally.

BHRT pellets are:

  • About the size of a grain of rice

  • Inserted subcutaneously

  • Absorbed as the body needs them, helping optimize hormone levels

  • Dosed precisely for each individual patient’s needs

Weight Loss

Your physician-supervised weight loss begins with a thorough evaluation, including a physical examination, medical history, and full metabolic workup. Your Pure Medicine doctor orders blood work and other laboratory tests to find out if your thyroid is healthy, to learn if your hormones are balanced, and to identify any other issues that may be behind your weight gain.

Based on the results of your tests and physical, your physician custom-designs a weight-loss program that you can easily incorporate into your current lifestyle. Physician-supervised weight loss helps you lose excess pounds gradually while improving your overall health and fitness.

Lyme Testing

In our lab we test for more relevant strains of tick-borne pathogens than any other lab, even those pathogens that exhibit Lyme-like symptoms but may be due to a different tick-borne disease and require different treatment paths.

It is important to test for co-infections. Nearly 1 in 4 ticks infected with the Lyme Disease pathogen carry more than one pathogen. That means nearly 25% of patients will not be diagnosed if the patient is tested only for Lyme disease.

Comprehensive Lab Testing

Our Nurse Practitioner can run blood labs to check levels of almost anything in your body, they can check the health of your liver to your kidneys to your thyroid. They can also run a urine analysis to check the sugar or proteins in your urine to understand the balance of those things in your body. They can also perform swab tests to test for different illnesses that you or your child may be experiencing.
